Dot's Closet

Dot's Closet receives new and gently used adult and children's clothing, which is distributed at no cost to local residents.  This ministry only accepts clothes, we do not accept toys, furniture or other things other than clothes, please send the other things to GoodWill.  This ministry is in memory of Dot Brackett.

Dot’s Closet is open the 2nd and 3rd Thursdays of each month from 2pm – 4:30pm.

June 2015 Newsletter

When people come into Dot’s Closet, each person signs in with their name, town where they live and how many people they are shopping for.  For the first 6 months of 2015, Dot’s Closet served 225 people from 10 different towns.  These shoppers were shopping for 528 people.

The very first day we were open in 2015, there was a local neighborhood fire and Dot’s Closet immediately got together several bags of clothes to help the burned out families.  This winter was brutally cold and many people came in every time we were open to find warm clothes.  Each week there are many people coming in with special needs.  There are so many people who have nothing and the joy they display when they find something of value to them, is priceless.

One week an elderly woman with severely deformed feet came in looking for a pair of shoes.  She usually has trouble finding shoes she can wear.  This day she found a very nice pair of sturdy sandals that fit and she could walk in.  She was excited and very happy.  Another time, a grandmother who had just been given custody of her 8 year old granddaughter, came in and was able to find clothes for her.  This past week a mother and daughter came in who had just moved here to Oakland.  They were very happy and grateful that Dot’s Closet was available to them even though they were newcomers to the area.  These stories and many more happen each day at the Closet.  Not only do the shoppers go away happy but the volunteers do also.  It is a joyful and pleasant experience to serve the people who come to Dot’s Closet.

Due to the fact that we are now open only 2 days a month and also we do not have the help we used to have, we sometimes get behind in sorting and taking care of the clothing donations that we receive.  The faithful and committed volunteers do the best they can. If you are interested in having fun, meeting new people, enjoying the company of other volunteers,  and experiencing the privilege of helping others, please contact Gail Watson,(616-0725  or  ilj740me@gmail.com) and we will be very happy to welcome you to Dot’s Closet.

GIVE, AND IT WILL BE GIVEN TO YOU.  A GOOD MEASURE, PRESSED DOWN, SHAKEN TOGETHER AND RUNNING OVER, WILL BE POURED INTO YOUR LAP.  FOR WITH THE MEASURE YOU USE, IT WILL BE MEASURED TO YOU.     Luke 6:38

What is greater than God - and more evil than the devil?  The poor have it.  The rich need it.  And if you eat it you will die.   (The answer is one word and it can be found in the above text.)
