2017 Summer Bible Study--Tuesday's at 10:00 am. in the church vestry.

The study group is reading The Lightless Sky by Gulwali Passarley with Nadene Ghouri.

After his father and grandfather were killed by U. S. troops for allegedly cooperating with the Taliban, Gulwali Passarley fled Afghanistan with his brother in the middle of the night, with only a hastily packed rucksack and little more than $200 in his pocket.  He was twelve years old.

This absorbing personal history and a stunning testament to the power of the human spirit; the triumph of faith, courage, and determination; and the undeniable universal right to life, liberty and security of person.

The study group felt that Gulwali was a very brave young boy and that he was a strong individual due to his faith and the friendships that he made along the way.

SIGNS

 SELF STORAGE says the sign.

Some day I’ll store my Self when I get in my way.

Stuff judgment behind a roll down door

and walk up hill to the Redemption Center.

When I get in my way, I’ll store my Self

like the woman who asked Where at the well

after she walked uphill to the Redemption Center.

She buried her Self in her dry jar.

Like the woman at the well who asked Where,

I find the Grace Street marked ONE WAY

and bury my Self in her jar, too.

Instead of drawing water, we dive in.

Along one-way Grace Street,

I wash with my sister in the waterfall.

We dive in without drawing water,

bathe in the welcome of unconditional love.

I swim with my sister in the waterfall

beside the SELF STORAGE sign,

free to welcome with unconditional love,

our judgment in the jar behind the door.
