Prayer Shawl

Led by Joanne Cook a number of very faithful ladies at OAKS meet monthly to knit and crochet beautiful "Prayer Shawls"  and Prayer Patches for members of the parish and others beyond our parish who are in need of prayer and spiritual encouragement.  Since this ministry began the group has distributed more than 86 prayer shawls to people who were ill, grieving or commemorating a special occasion in their lives.  Shawls have been sent across the country and beyond our country's borders.

This group is also looking for donations of yarn to support their ministry.

All those interested in creating shawls are invited to attend our meetings held on the first Monday of each month at the home of Joan Finemore.  Meetings begin at 1:30 and run until 3:00.  Even if you don't knit or crochet you can still join in the ministry by providing yarn (3 skeins for a shawl) or providing money donations for yarn and gift bags.  We recently have been joined by a new person who crochets and we hope more of you will join us.

Anyone wishing a shawl can request one at anytime.  Shawls are given for many reasons;  celebrating a life well lived, during a time of healing emotionally or physically, service men and women, people relocating, birthdays, celebrating marriages and more.  We also kit and crochet prayer patches that are given to graduating seniors and college graduates.

Our prayer shawl ministry has given away well over 200 shawls, some have even gone to people in other countries, as well to other states here in America.
